Sadie Says Live it Up This Spring Break

The weather’s getting warmer, the birds are chirping again, and there have miscellaneous deer sightings on campus…you know what that means! Spring break is near!

(Disregard the fact that Minnesota may see snow in the next twenty-four hours. Let me have this one.)

Spring break couldn’t be coming at a more perfect time – everyone is just starting to get fed up with the relentless persistence of the academic, athletic, and social workloads being thrown their way on the daily.

I, for one, am wholly excited to have time to simply rot in bed, outside, or enjoy the gentle, lazy days that make up spring break that I so desperately crave during the semester.

After a while, however, there’s only so much TikTok you can mindlessly scroll through, junk food to gorge on, or napping to waste away the day. I want to take advantage of every second of this spring break, whether it be resting or living it up, in order to make it one to remember.

And what better way to live it up this spring break than trying out some new media? Whether that be books, TV shows, movies, albums, or more, spring break is your perfect opportunity to sit back, relax, and take it all in.

Let me take you through my most recommended reads, watches, and listens for the best spring break ever.

Book: Everything I Know About Love by Dolly Alderton

Spring break is all about reconnecting with old friends and recognizing the beauty in the little things, and that is exactly what Dolly Alderton’s famed memoir encapsulates.

What’s better to ring in a period of rest and relaxation than a good old book about female friendships, growing up, and nostalgic memories of childhood?

To me, reading this book feels like having an in-depth, detailed debrief with a friend. Alderton spares no details in her angst covering failed relationships, friendships, or familial concerns.

Alderton acts as a big sister to the reader, giving them someone to look up to and almost ask advice in certain scenarios, as she unabashedly provides a firsthand perspective into her life’s trials and tribulations.

To shake it up, for something different, throw those fiction books aside, and try out nonfiction for a change – I guarantee that Alderton’s life experiences will have you cackling in the meantime.

TV Show: New Girl on Peacock

If there is one fan of New Girl in this world, it is me. I am always down to rave about this masterful show, with its perfect blend of humor, wit, charisma, and genuine connection.

New Girl follows the life of Jessica Day, a down-on-her-luck teacher after just finding out her boyfriend cheated on her. She moves into a loft with three distinct, lovable guys, who all embark on various life-altering adventures with her.

This is a perfect easygoing show to venture into when wanting something new. The episodes are a mere 20 minutes long, giving the perfect opportunity to either binge for hours or just end your day on a fun note.

The writers of New Girl knew what they were doing with this one; the laugh lines never fail to have me absolutely cackling and falling out of my chair.

This is 100% my comfort TV show, and I would gladly champion it to anyone I meet.

Next time you need something quick and easy to get into, open up Peacock and try it out. I promise you won’t be disappointed.

Movie: The ERAS TOUR Concert Film

While this fan favorite of a film is currently available to rent on Prime, Taylor Swift is taking streaming services by storm with the release of the Eras Tour on Disney+, with the addition of even more surprise songs and such.

As an avid Taylor Swift fan, I can assure you that this film is a cinematic masterpiece. Not only are Swift’s pure vocals and on-stage presence insane, the captivating visuals and camera work make for a once-in-a-lifetime viewing experience.

With this film, Swift revolutionized the concept of a concert film: no longer are fans viewing from one angle or stuck to necessarily one performance. This film encapsulates clips from all over, with the surprise songs, and includes visual effects to tie each era together beautifully.

What I really appreciated about this one is the versatility it offers. The close-up camera angles give me a completely different perspective of the show than I attended in 2023, and it gave me an even deeper fascination and level of respect for Swift in that she performs a three hour show with such grace, determination, and talent.

Even if you’re not a diehard Swiftie, this is a perfect film to get into her music or reminisce on some of her more popular hits.

Grab some friends, some popcorn, and buckle up for the ride of your life – Taylor Swift doesn’t mess around with this one.

Album: Stick Season (Forever) by Noah Kahan

Last but not least, Noah Kahan’s riveting, melodic rockstar of an album will have you on an emotional rollercoaster.

This melancholy, inspired album features many famous collaborations and has received many accolades, rightfully so. Noah Kahan has skyrocketed into popularity with his authentic portrayals of love, heartbreak, and nostalgia as one moves onward to the next stage of their life.

This album is such a good listen for a lazy day, in that it includes both upbeat and pensive tracks, giving listeners a wide array of options in which to delve into.

Some personal favorites of mine include “You’re Gonna Go Far”, “Call Your Mom”, or “Northern Attitude.”

In my opinion, you can’t go wrong with this one – this is a no-skip album that is the perfect soundtrack to a rainy day.

Study with it, sleep with it, dance to it – Noah Kahan knocked it out of the park with Stick Season, and it’s about time you should listen to it.

With these new additions to your repertoire,

Spring break will surely fly by – boredom won’t be plaguing you, and you instead will come out of the break a more enlightened and engaged individual.

Take the time to spend some time with yourself and enjoy the world around you because you deserve it this spring break!
